According to data presented by the Andalusian government analyzing the results of this segment during the 2010 season, Malaga and the Costa del Sol are positioned as a landmark destination for Golf tourism.
Despite the economic crisis, golf tourists left a total of 687 million Euros in Andalusia last year 2010 with 427,000 visits to the Andalusian golf courses. These figures highlight the important presence of the Costa del Sol, with more than 30 golf courses in its territory, which accounts for 55% of the Andalusian golf courses and 30% of the domestic supply.
According to data of the study, golf tourists choose the Costa del Sol not only for the large number of facilities available for this sport, but by the quality of these, the image that exists of this destination as “pioneer area” of international acclaim and due to outstanding facilities such as Valderrama and Sotogrande.
The attraction of Malaga as Costa del Golf is related to the breadth of its offers and its popularity among British and German markets, which stand as the main sources of tourists with a high purchasing power.
Indicators such as these denote that the Costa del Sol has become a consolidated reference destination in Andalusia, characterized by a wide complementary offer and excellent communication (referring to Malaga airport and AVE high speed train) and a very diversified hotel offer.
